About Seconds Eco Store

Seconds was founded in 2008 in Taos, New Mexico by entrepreneur and mixed media artist Sara Basehart. In the beginning Seconds was a home business in a sustainable, off grid, solar powered house built using recycled materials out on the desert mesa surrounding Taos. In 2010 we moved into our retail space in the John Dunn House Shops in the heart of the historical district. Seconds has become a favorite for locals and visitors alike thanks to its eclectic, fun, clever products and welcoming space. It was designed as a platform for using purchasing power to support recycled artists all over the world as well as local public art projects involving recycling.

We consciously use the money we spend to support the artists and ideas we want to get behind. With no end in sight to the problem of garbage, there is endless material with which to explore recycled creativity and adventurous recycled redesign rebirthed from the waste stream. Recycled design can be breathtakingly beautiful, it can be whimsical, poignant, and practical. It is inspirational to see what can be done with discarded materials and a little creativity.
